You fill the iolite with gas just like you would with a refillable gas lighter. Then once the iolite is switched on it initiates a catalytic reaction between butane and oxygen, to heat up within 45 seconds.  For best results, use a premium quality butane fuel, not the standard butane you can buy at drug store.  The catalytic conversion makes the gas become completely inert; there is an exhaust system in place to expel any leftover butane simply as water.

Silver Surfer Vap Review:  The Silver Surfer Vaporizer, made by the 7th Floor Co.,  is one of the best hands free whip vaporizers on the market today. It has a ceramic heating element, which is the same type of heating element used in the Volcano Vaporizer. The heating component is strategically engineered to last longer than any other vaporizers. As an owner of a Silver Surfer, the construction is rock solid. I can be very careless and it’s fallen on the floor a lot. I’ve had it for a long time though,  and it works just like it did when I first got it. Personally, I like filling bags more than drawing from a whip, but when it comes to whip vapes, the Silver Surfer is top of the line. So if you like whips more than bags, this vaporizer is a much better choice for you than the Volcano, and costs much less. Extra points for ease of use. The instructions are easy to follow. This won’t be a big factor to most people, but it is this vaporizer is the best looking one I’ve seen. The design is simple but beautiful. The only cons are that there are no digital controls for adjusting temperature, and there is no options for filling bags as there is no fan. There are vaporizers cheaper than the Silver Surfer Vaporizer that have an option for bag and whip. Still, as a package, this vaporizer is one of the best whip vaporizers on the market today.

You just pack the chamber and then screw the flame filter on top, then light it like you would a regular pipe. Remember to grind it up nicely or you won’t get as much vapor. To control the temperature, adjust the amount of flame applied and the speed of inhalation. This is the only tricky part but you’ll get used to it after a few times. The flavor and heat of the vapor inhaled will tell you whether you need to adjust it higher or lower. This is THE vaporizer to get for those who want a no-nonsense portable vaping experience. Sure, you can spend a hundred dollars more and get one with digital controls, but you’ll have to recharge it and deal with other inconveniences.
